Madison is the capital city of Wisconsin and is known for its fantastic museums, cultural events, and award-winning bars and restaurants. 

Madison has plenty to offer in terms of things to do and lovely sights. It’s also one of the safest cities to live in and visit in the nation. 

While in the city, there are some attractions that you just can’t miss out on. This includes the Wisconsin State Capitol building, the Chazen Museum of Art, James Madison Park, and the Madison Children’s Museum.

You’ve also got Henry Vilas Zoo and the beautiful Olbrich Botanical Gardens! Fortunately, many of these 4-star and 5-star hotels stay near all of Madison’s most famous attractions.

1. The Madison Concourse Hotel

The Madison Concourse Hotel is one of the most luxurious accommodation options in the city and is found in downtown Madison.

Due to its location, you’re within walking distance of the Madison Children’s Museum, the Wisconsin Veterans Museum, and the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art. It’s just a 10-minute drive from the airport, so if you’re renting a car at the Madison airport it’s a quick drive to your accommodations.

There are 373 rooms available at the hotel, split into seven separate sections. Some of the premier options include the Governor’s Club Rooms and Whirlpool Suites.

No matter which room you go for, you’ll have free WiFi, a flatscreen TV, a coffee machine, and a refrigerator.

Aside from the rooms, you can benefit from the hotel’s extensive range of facilities. This includes an indoor pool, sauna, fitness center, and dining options. While here, you can dine in the CIRC restaurant, grab a drink at the bar, or wake up to a coffee at the on-site Starbucks.

The Madison Concourse Hotel also offers the Governor’s Club, where you can stay on the hotel’s executive floor and get exclusive access to the Governor’s Club Lounge. 

You get complimentary breakfast and treats here. This is where we stayed on our visit, and the views of the State Capitol Building were great.

2. The Edgewater

As its name suggests, the Edgewater is located right by the side of Lake Mendota. Not only is the area beautiful, but you’re close to a variety of fun places.

If you stay here, you’re just a short walk from the Capitol Square and James Madison Park. Not to mention, the University of Wisconsin-Madison is closeby as well. 

There are 202 luxurious rooms at The Edgewater and many of them offer breathtaking views of Lake Mendota. They’re split between two separate buildings with The Wisconsin Building and the Langdon Building.

You can get any type of spa treatments you want at their wellness spa which provides professional massages and facial and skin treatments. 

Each room features excellent amenities including a spa shower, an HD TV, a coffee maker, and a refrigerator. Their plush spa robes can keep you cozy. 

However, it’s the 4-star hotel’s facilities that really steal the show. With an on-site spa and salon, there are endless opportunities to just focus on you. 

Aside from in-room dining, you can dine at one of the hotel’s three restaurants — Augie’s Tavern, The Boathouse Bar & Grill, and The Statehouse. This hotel even offers a food hall where you can get quick food like pizza, pasta, and salads.

3. Sheraton Madison Hotel

Although the Sheraton Madison Hotel may not look exciting from the outside, it provides a wonderful stay. 

The hotel takes sustainability very seriously so you know you’ll be doing right by the planet. Secondly, it’s located near Turville Bay within Lake Monona, which is quite the scenic area and provides many fun things to do in the capital city

Since it’s not found near busy areas, the room prices reflect the location. They’re much cheaper than other luxury hotels which is a great reason to stay here.

All the guest rooms are spacious and feature an array of amenities including free WiFi, mini-fridges, and a flat-screen 55-inch TV for movies. 

Another reason to stay at the Sheraton Madison Hotel is the facilities available to you. While here, you can use their indoor pool, hot tub, fitness center, games room, and convenience store.

There are also two restaurants you can dine in The Market and The Hub.

4. Graduate Madison

Graduate Madison is conveniently located near UW-Madison for those staying on campus or visiting their loved ones. You’re just a short walk away from the university. 

The boutique hotel is set on Langdon Street alongside the beautiful Lake Mendota and is a great base for your trip. Even better, some of the rooms offer stunning views of the area.

Four main types of rooms are available: Graduate Queen, Graduate King, and Graduate King Suite. There’s even an accessible room too. 

Each room is spacious and features plenty of fantastic amenities, including a TV, free WiFi, and a seating area. 

Although the rooms are enough of a reason to visit, the Graduate Madison has lots of superb facilities too. Boasting a rooftop bar, a 24-hour fitness center, an on-site coffee shop, and a fantastic restaurant, this place can keep you busy.

The luxe hotel is also pet-friendly and offers complimentary bike rentals and valet parking.

Although you could easily spend hours just chilling in the hotel, you’ll find plenty of attractions right on your doorstep. This includes Memorial Union Terrace and two of Madison’s most popular museums.

5. DoubleTree by Hilton Madison East

DoubleTree by Hilton Madison East is ideal if you arrive via Dane County Regional Airport. However, it’s pretty far out of town which means you’re away from all the noise. 

You’ll have to catch the bus if you want to go downtown but several routes run here, so you won’t be short of options. As you’ll be staying out of the city of Madison, the room prices are also reasonable for what you get! 

There are three types of guest rooms, two suites, and plenty of accessible rooms available. No matter which one you choose, you’ll have free WiFi, HDTV’s, a refrigerator, and even a safe for all your important belongings.

Not only are the rooms themselves incredibly spacious and comfortable, but there are plenty of superb facilities at DoubleTree by Hilton Madison East.

There’s an indoor pool, a fitness center, meeting rooms, an on-site restaurant, and a Starbucks. The restaurant is called Tailwinds and is known for its tasty menu and happy hour deals when it comes to alcoholic beverages.

Room service and free parking is also available here, but just keep in mind that no pets are allowed. That’s not a problem for most people but if you wish to take your furry friend along with you, you’ll have to check out some of the other options.

6. Hotel Indigo Madison Downtown

If you’re looking for a luxurious hotel in a great location, then check out Hotel Indigo Madison Downtown. This boutique hotel is the perfect option for those who are after a quirky stay.

For starters, its location lets you explore the city with plenty of awesome places to visit. This includes Capitol Square, Madison Children’s Museum, and Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center. 

You’ll be staying within the Mautz Paint Company building which is famous for its unique decor, distinctive murals, and original architecture. There is a choice of several types of guest rooms and suites. 

Each room offers space and comfort, as well as quirky posters, funky furniture, and colorful wallpaper. Travelers can enjoy soft seating, free WiFi, an HD TV, and more.

7. Best Western Premier Park Hotel

Best Western Premier Park Hotel can provide you with a luxury getaway in Madison, and there are plenty of reasons for this.

Firstly, it’s the only hotel located on the iconic Capitol Square so you can’t get any more central than this. Not only will you be directly opposite the State Capitol Building, but there are many other things to do right on your doorstep.

This includes the Wisconsin Historical Museum, the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Overture Center for the Arts.

Just keep in mind that plenty of events take place here including farmers’ markets, concerts, and art fairs. This means rooms can sell out quickly so you’ll want to book in advance if possible.

At Best Western Premier Park Hotel, you’ll have the choice of several types of guest rooms, as well as suites. One of the most luxurious options is the Capitol Suite and it’s not overpriced either! 

There are also tons of extraordinary facilities here including a spa, beauty studio, fitness center, indoor pool, and convenience store.

When it comes to dining, you’ve got The Post Restaurant & Bar which serves meals throughout the day and cocktails after 3 pm.

8. Hilton Madison Monona Terrace

The decor of the rooms here is incredible, offering beauty, comfort, and elegance. Staying here is like taking a glimpse into the past, but you won’t have to compensate when it comes to amenities.

Mansion Hill Inn also offers a complimentary European breakfast, free passes for the city bike program, complimentary beverages, and yummy cookies! There’s even a bar on-site where you can grab a drink.

10. Hilton Garden Inn Madison Downtown

This Hilton Garden Inn is located in downtown Madison and offers proximity to places like Kohl Center, the Geology Museum, and the Chazen Museum of Art.

There are several types of rooms available with some of these being accessible-friendly and pet-friendly. You can also opt for a connecting room if you’re traveling as a family or group, but it’s better to request this in advance. 

Room service and the other amenities are included with your stay. The hotel also has access to plenty of facilities.

On-site there’s also the Garden Grill & Bar, where you can enjoy cocktails and dinner. The bars open until 5 pm-11 pm (depending on the day) so why not grab a drink after a long day of exploring?

There’s even a cozy outside area with lighting. Thanks to its ideal location, cozy rooms, and excellent facilities, this hotel is a great option if you’re planning a trip to Madison.

11. Hyatt Place Madison/Downtown

The Hyatt Place Madison/Downtown puts you within easy walking distance of the State Capitol Building and Capitol Square.

During your time at this luxe hotel, make use of the onsite fitness center, indoor swimming pool, and business services. Even better, free breakfast is included with your stay. 

When it comes to dining you’ve got three options; the breakfast bar, The Placery, and The Market. The first option is naturally where you’ll grab breakfast, whereas The Placery is the hotel’s on-site restaurant. The Market is perfect if you’re in a rush, as they offer grab-and-go items.
